Cult Information Masterpost

So, I was browsing some of my tumblr backlog and saw that
lb_lee had reblogged a post with some very useful information about cult-like social groups. Since the plural community's unfortunately got a history with cults, and since many details about cults are relevant to general unhealthy social dynamics on a less organized scale, I thought I'd archive that post off tumblr and save it just in case. Then I remembered another link I had on hand about cults, and decided I might as well begin a list. It's short, but hopefully it helps regardless.
If you have any other resources, please feel free to suggest them. However, please don't post call-outs here. While I do feel like people should be made aware of cult leaders and other predators, I've also seen such things go terribly wrong when the claims in them weren't verifiable. I'm really sorry, but I don't have the spoons or resources, emotional or otherwise, to moderate and verify things--if you have concerns about someone, I highly recommend bringing them up privately with a community leader or similar instead.
The list:
- Quick tips to tell if you’re in a cult-like social group (archived version) - what it says on the tin, a bunch of red flags to keep an eye out for
- Things About Cults Writers Need To Know (archived version) - this is more of a resource for writers, but it may still be useful
- Cultiples #1: Tristan Grey/Desiree Hamm by LB Lee - a zine about the history and tactics of one particular cult leader in the plural community. It is pay-what-you-want, including free. They have also written two posts on Dreamwidth over this particular cultiple: story and tactics.
This is not cult-specific, but the resources under the Abuse and Trauma section on HealthyMultiplicity.com may be helpful as well, as they cover certain forms of abuse specific to plurality or minority communities in general.
Stay safe. Remember that it's always within your right to say no, and to leave a particular group or situation.
